General Description

Horizon 2020 is the new European Union funding program for research and innovation for the period 2014 to 2020. Funded by an €80 billion budget, Horizon 2020 is aimed at ensuring that Europe produces world-class science, removes barriers to innovation, and makes it easier for the public and private sectors to work together in delivering innovation.

Project Solicitation and Submission

Proposal deadlines are based on the solicitation. All proposals are submitted online at the Participant Portal, which also includes instructions to guide applicants through the submission process.

Selection Process

Once the proposal deadline has passed, all proposals are evaluated by a panel of independent specialists in their fields. The panel checks each proposal against a list of criteria to see if it should receive funding.

A proposal is eligible if:

• Its contents are in line with the topic description in the call; and
• It involves enough of the right participants, meets standard eligibility conditions, and any other eligibility conditions set out in the call for research or on the topic page.

Many calls for research require a team of at least three partners. Use the partner search options at the Participant Portal to identify a potential partner with specific competencies, facilities, or experience.

Proposals are evaluated and scored against selection and award criteria. The evaluation rules describe in detail the criteria used for each type of action.
