PM&Q Quality and Timeliness Survey 2020

The results of research projects are public assets, and since the federal government
may fund a portion of the research, closer scrutiny is given to the end product. Two of
the main measures for determining if a project meets research and development
performance measures are timeliness of the research project and quality in which the
project is performed. The Program Management and Quality Task Force (PM&Q) is
asking research programs in the Departments of Transportation to respond to the below
questions so that we can determine if these performance measures are being met and
how, and if not, what is the rationale why these measures are not met or are being
deviated from. The information received will be used to prepare a report which we hope
will assist research programs improve or validate their research program performance.
This survey is an update to one previously conducted in the Spring of 2019.

NHDOT Research Implementation Survey

NHDOT survey used to request feedback from the Technical Advisory Group (TAG) members to assess the value, implementation, and outcome of completed research projects for the previous three work programs (2014-2019).

Implementation Survey Responses

Input, insight and previous knowledge from practitioners to address implementation issues and concerns. Feedback from the state DOTs on research implementation and their input on the following three questions.
1. What are the over-arching concerns or challenges facing research implementation?
2. What would you like to see as an end result of the study?
3. Are there any past ideas or topics that group can build on?

Research Implementation Status Definitions

The Illinois Department of Transportation’s Research Section is in the process of setting implementation status definitions to aid in establishing research performance measures. The purpose of this survey was to discover what categories other states use as their implementation status for research projects (e.g. implemented, not implemented, implementation underway, etc.) and their definitions.

Project Performance Evaluation

The Phase 1 portion of this form is completed after the completion of each research project. It provides information on the project, implementation, and technology transfer. The phase 2 of this form is to be completed two years after the completion of each project. It provides information on the project, implementation, and benefits.

Research Project Exit Survey for the Consultant

This survey is sent to research project consultants after each project is complete and the final products are posted on the MDT website. The purpose of this survey is to evaluate the MDT research project manager, MDT research program, and the research project technical panel.
